NL Green River. The Time of the Yakurunas is een poëtische reis naar de diepten van de Amazone, begeleid door ceremonieel gezang. De film onderzoekt de perceptie van tijd in drie kleine dorpjes die met elkaar verweven zijn door het stromende water van de Amazone-rivier. Na de film vindt er een Q&A plaats met een van de regisseurs, Álvaro Sarmiento.
EN Guided by ayahuasca chants, Green River. The Time of the Yakurunas is a poetic journey into the depths of the Amazon. The film explores the perception of time in three small villages intertwined by the flowing waters of the Amazon river. After the film we will have a Q&A with one of the directors, Álvaro Sarmiento.

EN Welcome to our next screening of the season in collaboration with Asian Movie Night! We invite you to see Ushiku (2021), a documentary directed by Ian Thomas Ash. With a hidden camera Ash recorded the stories of the detainees in one of Japan’s biggest immigration centers – or prison – ‘Ushiku’. This reveals the horrible reality of physical and mental abuse that prevails in these centres. Japan has a notoriously cruel immigration policy and accepted only 0,4% of refugee applicants over the last ten years. Ushiku exposes the hostile nature of Japan’s hushed up discriminatory immigration system and the human rights violations it imbues. In a country that portrays itself as the emblem of politeness and “omotenashi” – or hospitality – this documentary reveals an especially harrowing truth.

queer.red presents: queering sex work
NL queer.red presents is een nieuw initiatief en zij starten een sekswerker film- & kunstfestival in Amsterdam. Wij zijn verheugd hen bij Cavia te verwelkomen! Door het promoten van beeldende kunst met, door en over de sekswerkergemeenschap hopen zij bij te dragen aan een grotere zichtbaarheid van een meer genuanceerde representatie van sekswerk. Zij zijn een groep van (voormalige) sekswerkers, feministen, queer- en transmensen uit alle verschillende lagen van de bevolking en achtergronden. Meer→
EN queer.red presents is a new initiative and they're starting a sex worker film & arts festival in Amsterdam. We are delighted to host them at Cavia! By promoting visual arts with, by and about the sex worker community, queer.red hopes to contribute to a greater visibility of a more nuanced representation of sex work. They are a group of (former) sex workers, feminists, queer and trans people from all different walks of life and backgrounds. More→
