EN On 2 July 1971, Bruce Brown introduced On Any Sunday to the world. At the time, Hollywood often portrayed motorcyclists as unruly outsiders who roamed around causing trouble. But Brown's film showed something different. Through the lives of Steve McQueen, Malcolm Smith, and Mert Lawwill, we learn that motorcycles are not just about speed or danger. They're about passion, community, and an unshakable devotion to the open road.
On Any Sunday was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Yet some people still overlook its impact. They cling to old views, thinking that riders are simply rebels without a cause. When audiences saw how each racer risked everything for their sport—and for each other—they started to realize that motorcycling goes far beyond the stereotypes.
Today, 50 years later, the newly remastered version reminds us that the same dedication and excitement remain. In the face of misconceptions, On Any Sunday stands as a testament to the power of community and a shared love for life on two wheels.

EN In the oceanside village of Iyi, the revered Mama Efe acts as an intermediary between the people and the all-powerful water deity Mami Wata. NL Alias Julián volgt het leven van Jesús Efraín Espinoza, een Argentijnse vluchteling en voormalig lid van de PRT (Revolutionaire Volkspartij) guerrilla, die sinds 1978 in Amsterdam woont. De documentaire verkent niet alleen zijn persoonlijke verhaal, maar ook bredere thema’s zoals waarheid en herinnering, democratie, mentale gezondheid, ouderdom, migratie en langdurige ballingschap. Naarmate het verhaal vordert, daagt het de kijker uit om zich af te vragen wat echt is en wat niet. Door tegenstrijdige getuigenissen en Espinoza’s eigen woorden wordt het onduidelijk wat verzonnen is en wat authentiek, wat uitnodigt tot een reflectie over identiteit, narratief en de vage grens tussen feit en fictie.

EN Alias Julián follows the life of Jesús Efraín Espinoza, an Argentine refugee and former member of the PRT (People's Revolutionary Party) guerrilla who has lived in Amsterdam since 1978. The documentary not only explores his personal story, but also broader themes such as truth and memory, democracy, mental health, ageing, migration and long-term exile. As the narrative progresses, it challenges the viewer to question what is real and what is not. Through contradictory testimonies and Espinoza’s own words, it becomes uncertain what is made up and what is genuine, inviting a reflection on identity, narrative and the blurred lines between fact and fiction.
At the end of the screening, stay in your seats for a special Q&A session with the director, Guillermo España, and the protagonist, Jesús Efraín ‘Pupi’ Espinoza.

NL We beginnen met Les Rengaines, een prachtige muzikale documentaire van 25 minuten, waarin het dagelijkse leven van een café in het noorden van Brussel wordt geschetst aan de hand van de liedjes die de klanten zingen om hun dagelijkse problemen te vergeten, om zich te herinneren wie ze onderweg zijn kwijtgeraakt of gewoon om plezier te maken. De muziek fungeert als een rode draad die niet alleen de personages verbindt, maar ook de structuur van de korte film, waardoor deze een fascinerend ritme krijgt.
EN First, we open with Les Rengaines, a beautiful 25-minutes musical documentary, outlying the daily life of a café in the north of Brussels through the songs that customers sing to forget their daily struggles, to remember about who they lost along the way, or just to have fun. Music acts as the red line connecting not only the characters, but also the structure of the short, giving it a really mesmerizing rhythm.

NL Vervolgens vertonen we een 'live-geanimeerd uitgevoerde' film, Happy Fuji News, gemaakt met een techniek die zowel innovatief als archaïsch aanvoelt. Hier wordt het verhaal verteld van een toeristengids die ontsnapt aan commerciële ontberingen door de toevallige ontmoeting met een ASMR-kunstenaar, door middel van meer dan 200 houtsnedes, allemaal gedrukt, geschreven en gesneden door Eric Kinny, een kunstenaar uit Brussel. De houtsnedes worden getoond op het ritme van een audiosoundtrack met MIDI-gitaarmuziek van Raphaël Desmarets, met geluidseffecten en stemacteren door McCloud Zicmuse, Siet Phorae, Molly Rex, Ma Clément, Alice Perez & Joey Wright.
EN Following, we change a step by showing a “live-animated performed” movie, Happy Fuji News, created with a technique which feels in equal parts innovative and archaic. Here the story of a tourist guide escaping commercial hardship through the chance meeting of an ASMR artist, will be told through over 200 woodcuts, all printed, written and carved by Eric Kinny, Brussels-based artist. The woodcuts will be shown and thrown at the rhythm of an audio soundtrack with MIDI guitar music by Raphaël Desmarets, with sound effects, and voice acting by McCloud Zicmuse, Siet Phorae, Molly Rex, Ma Clément, Alice Perez & Joey Wright.

EN After the blessed Porn Film Festival Amsterdam last month, we have the opportunity to revisit some of the programs at Cavia.
Cruising the City brings 5 short films that reclaim the city through sex and sexuality. Parties, apps, parks, cinemas, public toilets, darkrooms. All these places and more offer opportunities to check out strangers and make a connection. Many cities are faced with the prospect of being made more enticing by ”cleaning up” the zones where unscripted interactions are created. Enticing for whom? Whether we’re looking for love or just a quick hookup, the unnoticed corners and unrefined edges offer us endless opportunities to push back against the smoothing of urban areas by joining other strangers and actualizing our fantasies together.

EN Working Progress is a series of screenings that enable filmmakers to present their unfinished works to meet audiences with the aim of receiving feedback, generating a conversation and network for filmmakers and other film people! Filmmakers and works are chosen through an open call on a monthly basis. For interested parties, please email: workingprogress.ams@gmail.com
The screening will present 3 work in progress films or audiovisual works, with each filmmaker or artist receiving up to 30 minutes to present their unfinished work and talk to the audience about the work. More details about the selected projects to follow in the week before the screening.
