Various Makers | 1936 - 2020 | USA, UK, NL, Russia | approx 90’ | EN subs

EN Home movies are short amateur films made to preserve special moments and to be enjoyed in the privacy of the home. Only rarely do these momentary recordings have a narrative. Accidentally Cinematic brings this ‘accidentally cinematic’ form of the home movie out of its dusty box and on the silver screen.

SEX POSITIVE
Kissable Screens: Memories of a Burning Body (Memorias de un cuerpo que arde)
Antonella Sudasassi | 2024 | Costa Rica, Spanje | 90’ | EN subs
EN Kissable Screens, the monthly sex-positive programme of Cavia, encountered this beautiful film at the Pornfilmfestival in Berlin this year. Memories of a Burning Body is a wake-up call to those in unfulfilling relationships who think that sexual pleasure is gone after the menopause.
The film follows the voices of three women – 68-year-old Ana, 69-year-old Patricia and 71-year-old Mayela who grew up during a repressive era on the Central American island of Costa Rica – and portrays their memories, experiences and relationships as well as their approach to sexuality and femininity. They do not step in front of the camera, so the images in this film are implicit and poetic. Through the memory and intimacy of three women, this film tells you that sexual pleasure and desire can go on and even begin later in life.

Palestine Cinema Days:
Off Frame AKA Revolution Until Victory
Mohanad Yaqubi | 2016 | Palestina, Frankrijk, Qatar, Libanon | 62’ | EN subs
EN In Solidarity. Off Frame AKA Revolution Until Victory is a meditation on the Palestinian people's struggle to produce an image and self-representation on their own terms in the 1960s and 1970s, with the establishment of the Palestine Film Unit as part of the PLO. Unearthing films stored in archives across the world after an unprecedented research and access, the film begins with popular representations of modern Palestine and traces the works of militant filmmakers in reclaiming image and narrative through revolutionary and militant cinema. In resurrecting a forgotten memory of struggle, Off Frame reanimates what is within the frame, but also weaves a critical reflection by looking for what is outside it, or what is off frame.
