NL70FPS gebruikt cinema (filmopname, handmatige ontwikkeling en afdrukken van film, projecties, enz.) om live concerten te spelen. The filmprojector is de basis waarmee hij live beelden en geluiden produceert die zijn lichaam en dat van de toeschouwers beïnvloeden. Geen kant-en-klaar product om te verkopen, geen films om te distribuëren – de films bestaan alleen in de ogen en oren van de toeschouwers die op het moment aanwezig zijn. GEEN DISTRIBUTIE, GEEN KOPIEËN – al zijn films reizen met hem mee, zij zijn z'n instrumenten in combinatie met een gemodificeerde projector en DIY electro-acoustische circuits. Zij zijn het resultaat van al zijn pogingen en vergissingen en hij gebruikt ze om samen iets te creëren met de mensen die hij ontmoet.
EN70FPS is using cinema (film shooting, hand processing, film printing, projections etc.) in order to play live concerts. The film in the projector is the material he uses to produce live images and sounds that can affect his body and the bodies of the people around him. No finished product to sell, no movies to distribute – the movie exists only in the eyes and hearts of the individuals who will be present at the moment he will play it. NO DISTRIBUTORS, NO COPIES – his films travel with him, they are his instruments together with his hacked projector and his DIY electroacoustic circuits. All of them are the result of his efforts and mistakes and he uses them to stay and do something together with the people he meets.
NL Een intiem portret van Jemen terwijl de revolutie ontketent, met aangrijpende momenten van reflectie, verlies, boosheid en hoop tijdens de onbewandelde weg naar revolutie. Verteld door de ogen van de tourgids Kais, die intelligente commentaar biedt over de veranderende tijden in Yemen. Gefilmd tijdens het afgelopen jaar zien we de weg van Kais van pro-president naar huiverige revolutionair, waarbij hij zich bij boze protestanten voegt in de steeds bloedigere straten van Sana’a.

EN An intimate portrait of Yemen as the revolution unfolds, told through the eyes of tour guide leader Kais, an intelligent commentator on the changing times in Yemen, offering poignant moments of reflection, loss, anger and hope on the unknown road to revolution. Filmed over the course of the past year we see Kais’s journey from pro-President to reluctant revolutionary, joining angry protesters in the increasingly bloody streets of Sana’a.

NL Negen maanden na de vermeende bevrijding van Irak volgt documentairemaker Sean McAllister, Samir Peter, de zelfbenoemde Liberace van Bagdad. Vóór de oorlog leefde Samir het leven van een beroemd concertpianist, maar nu bevindt hij zich in een belegerd hotel samen met huursoldaten, aannemers en journalisten. Samir wacht totdat hij kan vertrekken naar Amerika voor wat hij "zijn laatste avontuur" noemt. Zijn pro-Saddam dochter Sahar weigert echter te vertrekken vanwege wat de VS haar land heeft aangedaan. Terwijl Samir wacht op zijn visum escaleert het geweld in Bagdad en wordt hij geconfronteerd met de vraag of hij zijn familie in het wetteloze Irak wil achterlaten om zijn Amerikaanse droom na te jagen.

EN Nine months into the supposed liberation of Iraq, documentary filmmaker Sean McAllister follows Samir Peter, the self proclaimed Liberace of Baghdad. Before the war Samir lived the life of a famous concert pianist, but now he finds himself in a besieged hotel along with mercenaries, contractors, and journalists. Samir is waiting to leave for America, in what Samir calls “his last adventure”. However, his pro-Saddam daughter Sahar refuses to leave on account of what the U.S. has done to her country. As Samir waits for his visa the violence in Baghdad escalates, and Samir is faced with the questions of whether he wants to abandon his family in lawless Iraq to pursue his American Dream.

NL Deze documentaire vertelt het verhaal van Naoki, een 56-jarige postmedewerker. Tijdens de Japanse economische groei runde Naoki een succesvol bedrijf, had hij zijn eigen huis met 6 slaapkamers en reed in een nieuwe BMW. Maar toen de economie crashte in 1990 verloor hij alles; hij ging scheiden van zijn partner en zijn bedrijf ging failliet. Naoki was bijna dakloos tot hij zijn nieuwe vriendin Yoshie ontmoette, een 29-jarige medewerker van een bar waar zij betaald krijgt om te drinken en te flirten met getrouwde mannen. Door zijn leeftijd kan Naoki alleen deeltijds werken waardoor Yoshie geforceerd wordt om 15 uur per dag voor drie verschillende banen te werken om hem te ondersteunen. De meeste dagen blijft Naoki thuis in zijn kleine sombere appartement zonder ramen om het huis te onderhouden, terwijl Yoshie zichzelf kapot werkt. Vaak komt zij dronken thuis en plaagt ze Naoki met zijn situatie. Zoals Naoki het verwoordt: “Ze haat me, ik heb d'r nodig”. Deze film vertelt het verhaal van de levens van de werkende armen in een van de rijkste landen ter wereld.

ENThis documentary tells the story of Naoki, a 56 year old part-time postal worker. During the Japanese economic boom Naoki ran a successful business, owned a 6 bedroom house and drove a brand new BMW. But, when the economy crashed in the 1990s he lost everything, and suddenly found himself divorced and bankrupt. Naoki was on the brink of homelessness until he met his new girlfriend Yoshie, a 29 year old worker at a chat bar, where she is paid to drink and flirt with married men. As Naoki can only work part time due to his age, Yoshie is forced to work 15 hours a day in three jobs in order to support him. Most days Naoki stays at home in their dreary, windowless one-room apartment to do the housework while Yoshie exhausts herself at work. Often Yoshie returns home drunk, and teases Naoki about his situation. As Naoki puts it “She hates me, I need her”. This film is a story of the lives of the working poor in the second richest country in the world.

NLPapa Srapa is geen typische muziekdocumentaire, maar eerder een gecondenseerde trip naar het hart van Noise. Het zit vol met muziek die kan pijn doen en helen, Russische rare avant-garde en de woeste kracht van zijn performer. De film neemt ons mee naar bizarre noisefestivals en optredens met ravers, tripsters en freaks die zich onderdompelen in werelden van sonisch geweld en extatische gemoedstoestanden. Samen met Papa traceren we Noise terug tot de jaren 1920 en verbinden we het aan vroege Sovjet avant-garde figuren, zoals Dziga Vertov, Arseniy Avraamov en Nikolai Kulbin. De vakman moet zijn eigen gereedschap maken – dus papa maakt het zijne van oude Sovjet-radiocomponenten en goedkope rommel. We laten zien dat het niet alleen gaat om de manier waarop hij ze speelt, met bloed en speeksel, maar om de manier waarop hij ze tot leven brengt. ENPapa Srapa is not a typical music documentary, but rather a condensed trip to the very heart of Noise. It is loaded with music that can hurt and heal, Russian weird avant-garde and savage vigor of its preeminent performer. The film takes us to bizarre noise festivals and performances with ravers, tripsters and freaks immersing into worlds of sonic violence and ecstatic states of mind. Together with Papa we trace Noise back to 1920's, binding it to early Soviet avant-garde figures, such as Dziga Vertov, Arseniy Avraamov and Nikolai Kulbin. The craftsmаn should make his own tools – so Papa makes his of old Soviet radio components and cheap junk. We show it is not just about the way he plays them, using blood and saliva, but about the way he brings them to life. His weapons, known to the best part of Russian electronic musicians.

Live performance van Krytogen Rundfunk
NLKryptogen Rundfunk is een experimenteel muziekproject dat in 2002 is begonnen in St. Petersburg, Rusland en momenteel gevestigd is in Amstelveen, Nederland. Het project werkt met analoge elektronica, radiogolven, elektromagnetische interferentie en gevonden geluiden, waardoor geavanceerde auditieve beelden worden gecreëerd, waarbij vaak extreme gebieden van het geluidsspectrum worden verkend. Het doel van deze experimenten is om de rationele perceptie van luisteraars tijdelijk uit te schakelen en hen onder te dompelen in de directe ervaring van abstract geluid.
ENKryptogen Rundfunk is an experimental music project started in 2002 in St. Petersburg, Russia and currently based in Amstelveen, The Netherlands. The project works with analogue electronics, radio waves, electromagnetic interference and found sounds, creating sophisticated aural images, often exploring extreme areas of the sonic spectrum. The purpose of these experiments is to temporarily switch off listeners' rational perception and immerse them into the direct experience of abstract sound.
NL Magdalena is een theateractrice uit een kleine stad, die onherkenbare rollen speelt. Ze reist naar een nabijgelegen dorp om voor haar schoonvader te zorgen, die een beroerte heeft gehad. Door een uitbraak van de varkenspest is het dorp geblokkeerd. Na lang wikken en wegen besluit ze het varken te redden, ook al staat haar bij betrapping een boete te wachten die ze niet kan betalen. Op haar tocht om het varken te redden, vindt Magdalena de empathie van mensen op onwaarschijnlijke plaatsen.
EN Magdalena is a small-town theatre actress, playing unrecognisable roles. She travels to a nearby village to take care of her father-in-law, who has suffered a stroke. Due to a swine fever outbreak, the village has been blocked. After a long thought, she decides to save the pig, even though, if caught, she will face a fine that she is unable to pay. On her journey to save the pig, Magdalena finds the empathy of people in unlikely places.

ENAugust 13th is a film inspired by actual events from the near past. The story follows the encounters of Victor and Tanya at the end of their junior year. The two of them grow closer during the summer vacation, despite the danger surrounding them. On the night of August 13th they come across the bullies of the hood and their gang leader Galin, who seems to have come up with a cruel plan. The debut film was awarded the European Values Award at the Drama International Short Film Festival in Greece in 2022. TEASER

Rudolf Nureyev’s last lover Wallace Potts directed hot hunk Karl Forest in this Parisian porno – featuring choreography by the Russian legend – that included camerawork by legendary cinematographer Néstor Almendros (Days of Heaven, The Blue Lagoon, Sophie’s Choice). Until very recently an almost-lost film, surviving only in decaying VHS tapes, collector Gerry Herman’s lengthy search finally uncovered some prints. NL BUT Film Festival is een jaarlijks event in Breda voor B-movie-, Underground- en Trashfilms. Maar ze hebben ook een archief vol met B-movies en Cultfilms die in blikken liggen te wachten om weer eens op het scherm gezien te worden. En daarvoor komt BUT naar Amsterdam! Filmhuis Cavia heeft nog steeds de beschikking over analoge projectoren voor het vertonen van 8-, 16- en 35mm film. Dus waarom deze apparaten laten verstoffen als je er deze prachtige films mee kan vertonen? Daarom komt het BUT Filmfestival met regelmatige tussenpozen naar Amsterdam om deze b-movies en cultfilms weer ouderwets te laten draaien. Genieten van deze wat ondergewaardeerde analoge film. Vanuit het mooie Breda worden de films naar Amsterdam gebracht om op een groot scherm in Cavia weer eens aan het grote publiek te laten zien.
Voor deze eerste BUT@CAVIA zullen we de actiefilm Sevano's Seven uit 1979 op 16mm film gaan vertonen. Een agent van de overheid ontdekt een sinister plot van een kartel bestaande uit zeven gangsters. Zij willen de staat Hawaï overnemen. De agent heeft een ongewone methode om deze meedogenloze gangsters te stoppen: hij huurt zeven huurmoordenaars in.

That's why BUT is coming to Amsterdam at regular intervals to show these b-movies and cult films in the old-fashioned way. Enjoy this somewhat underrated analogue film. From the beautiful Breda, the films are brought to Amsterdam to be shown to the general public once again on the big screen at Cavia.
For this first BUT@CAVIA we will be showing the action flick Sevano's Seven from 1979 on 16mm film. A government agent uncovers a sinister plot by a cartel of seven mobsters. They want to take over the state of Hawaii. The cop has an unusual method to stop these ruthless gangsters: he hires seven hitmen.
