IN THE LONG NOW
+ Q&A with the Irish filmmakers and aemi
NL In the long now is een nieuw reizend filmprogramma samengesteld door het collectief aemi dat werk van Ierse hedendaagse filmkunstenaars samenbrengt met dat van internationale filmmakers, die allen nieuwe benaderingen van het bewegende beeld als kunstvorm verkennen. Met werk van Alee Peoples, Eavan Aiken, Jeamin Cha, Sandy Kennedy, Sylvia Schedelbauer en Patrick Hough onderzoekt het programma ideeën die te maken hebben met liefde, levendigheid, sterfelijkheid en het technologische proces van kijken voorbij de grenzen van onze fysieke mogelijkheden.
Na de wereldpremière op het Cork International Film Festival 2021, reist In the long now in 2022 langs een aantal locaties in Ierland en daarbuiten.
aemi is een door de Irish Arts Council gefinancierde organisatie die bewegend beeldwerk van kunstenaars en experimentele filmmakers ondersteunt en tentoonstelt. Hun In the long now-tour en vertoning in Filmhuis Cavia wordt vriendelijk ondersteund door Culture Ireland.
EN In the long now is a new touring programme curated by aemi that places work by Irish contemporary film artists in conversation with three titles by international practitioners. All of the filmmakers in the programme are innovating new approaches to the moving image as an artform. Featuring work by Alee Peoples, Eavan Aiken, Jeamin Cha, Sandy Kennedy, Sylvia Schedelbauer and Patrick Hough, In the long now explores ideas relating to love, liveness, mortality and the act or technological process of seeing beyond the limits set by our physical abilities.
Following on from its world premiere at Cork International Film Festival 2021, In the long now is now travelling to a number of venues across Ireland and Europe in 2022.
aemi is an Irish Arts Council-funded organisation that supports and exhibits moving image work by artists and experimental filmmakers. Their In the long now tour and screening at Filmhuis Cavia is kindly supported by Culture Ireland.

NL Een helter skelter is een kermisattractie rmet een spiraalvormige glijbaan die rond een toren is gebouwd. Net als deze film, een poging tot uitdrijving van een onbeantwoord verlangen, gaat het ofwel te snel of staat het volledig stil. Desoriënterend maar spannend.
EN A helter skelter is an amusement ride with a spiral slide built around a tower. Like this film, an exorcism attempt of an unrequited desire, itʼs either moving too fast or at a complete standstill. Disorienting but exciting.

White Hole

NL Menselijke en dierlijke verwanten worden geïnstrumentaliseerd; productie-eenheden, hun substraat uitgeput. Kunnen we ons een toekomst voorstellen waarin technologie iedereen dient en vooruitkijken met Promethean-kracht? White Hole kronkelt door ruimte en tijd, op zoek naar het ideale moment voor kansen.
EN Human and animal kin are instrumentalised; units of production, their substrate exhausted. Can we conceive a future where technology serves all and look forward with Promethean vigour? White Hole spirals through space and time, seeking the ideal moment for opportunity.

NL Ellie's Eye is een essayvideo met gevonden en origineel beeldmateriaal. Deze film onderzoekt hoe toekomstige samenlevingen en technologieën psychologische problemen van verschillende individuen kunnen benaderen, en of we de menselijke psyche zelf objectiveren.
EN Ellie’s Eye is an essay video comprising found and original footage. This film interrogates how future societies and technologies can approach psychological issues of different individuals, and whether we are objectifying the human psyche itself.

The Incorporeal Body of a Shadow Soul

NL Gebaseerd op herinneringen en ervaringen van onschuldige vrouwen die schade hebben geleden door patriarchale ideologieën in de Ierse cultuur, is The Incorporeal Body of a Shadow Soul een filmgedicht dat de halfwaardetijd verbeeldt van een ziel die niet kan ontsnappen aan de tijd en plaats van haar verwonding.
EN Based on memories and experiences of innocent women harmed by patriarchal ideologies in Irish culture, The Incorporeal Body of a Shadow Soul is a film poem, imagining the half life of a soul unable to escape the time and place of her wounding.
