NL Op 9 en 10 augustus keert Cavia na jaren weer terug naar de Pesthuislaan, om daar samen met Jeffrey en re·op films te vertonen in de openlucht! Op de vrijdag zal de documentaire Job en de Hollandse Vrijstaat te bewonderen zijn met korte films na afloop, en op zaterdag de Spaanse film Bajarse al Moro.
EN On August 9 and August 10 Cavia returns to Pesthuislaan to screen films in the open air, in collaboration with Jeffrey and re·op! On Friday the documentary Job and the Dutch Free-state will be shown with short films afterwards, and on Saturday the Spanish film Going down to Morocco.

NL Deze film vertelt een persoonlijke herinnering. Documentairemaakster Rosemarie Blank ontmoette in 1988 een vredige, excentrieke man die in het bezette Conradstraat-gebouw in Amsterdam woonde. Meer dan honderd krakers, voornamelijk kunstenaars, woonden hier, deze man, Job, was echter de meest authentieke in haar ogen: toen de Mobiele Eenheid met harde hand het pand ontruimde verdwenen alle krakers. Alle krakers op één na: Job bleef in het pand wonen alsof er niks gebeurd was. Zelfs toen bijna de hele straat tegen de vlakte ging bleef hij, zich reddend onder de meest bizarre omstandigheden. Schijnbaar onbewust van tijd en ruimte. Hij zag dingen in stenen en houtsplinters die niemand anders leek te zien. Tot hij op een dag vertrok en niemand hem ooit meer zag.
De film toont ons de legendarische 'Conradstraat', een bezet pand op de grens van Centrum en Oost. Niet alleen appartementen en losstaande huizen waren gekraakt in de jaren '80, maar ook grote stukken grond. Dit was een van de laatste, haast heilige, plekken in Amsterdam waar kunst, creativiteit en het dagelijkse leven hun eigen leven konden leiden. Regisseur Rosemarie Blank (Transit Levantkade) zal bij de vertoning aanwezig zijn.

EN This film documents a personal memory. In 1988 documentary filmmaker Rosemarie Blank met a quietly eccentric man, who lived in the occupied Conradstraat building in Amsterdam. More than 100 squatters lived there, mostly artists. Job was in her eyes the most authentic of them all. When the Conradstraat was dramatically cleared by the police, the squatters left, but Job stayed behind as if nothing had happened. After the buildings were pulled down, he survived under the most bizarre conditions, apparently oblivious to time and space. Job seemed to see something in stones and wood splinters that no-one else could see. One day he left and was never seen again.
This film documents the legendary 'Conradstraat', an occupied building in Amsterdam East. Back in the 1980s there were not only apartments and single houses that were occupied, but also entire areas of land. This was one of the last of these holy areas where art, creativity and everyday life had free rein. Director Rosemarie Blank (Transit Levantekade) will be present at this screening.

NL Bajarse al Moro, een Spaanse film met een intens fris zomergevoel, speelt zich voornamelijk af op een aantal dakterrassen in Madrid én in een stadje in Marokko. Op één van de terrassen rollen Chusa en haar broer joints, ze dromen, ze ruziën en ze kijken uit over de omliggende wijk. Hij verkoopt sandalen op de rommelmarkt, terwijl zij een beetje verdient door in het Noord-Marokkaanse stadje Xauen hasj op te pikken om te verkopen aan haar vrienden. Hun buurtgenoten en hun klandizie toont ons hoe divers het leven in Madrid vroeger was: een verzameling van berooide bohémiens, huiverige priesters, hardcore junkies, conservatieve kleptomanen én een charmante, door Antonio Banderas gespeelde, wietrokende politieagent. Een film over het samenkomen én het vervreemden van mensen, ongeacht hun afkomst of ideologie. De soundtrack komt van Pata Negra, wiens leden, de gebroeders Amador, ook in de rollen van de Roma-buren te zien zijn.
EN Bajarse al Moro is a Spanish film with an intensely fresh summer vibe, set mostly on a couple of roof terraces of Madrid and in a little village in Morocco. On one terrace, Chusa and her brother roll joints, dream, argue and check out the neighbourhood. He sells sandals at the flea market, while she makes a bit of money on the side picking up hashish in the north Moroccan town of Xauen and selling it to her buddies. Their neighbours and clientele show how diverse life used to be in Madrid; a collection of penniless bohemians, hesitant priests, hardcore junkies, conservative kleptomaniacs, and a cute weed-smoking cop played by Antonio Banderas. The film ends up being about how people come together and drift apart regardless of their ideology. The gypsy neighbours are played by a band called Pata Negra before they became massive, and jazzy tunes like 'Pasa la vida' are still recognised today as classics of those joyful years.
