International Tour
NL Filmhuis Cavia is er trots op een van de stops te zijn van de internationale tournee van Beirut Animation Nights. Dit programma presenteert een rondreizende selectie van korte animatiefilms uit Libanon en de rest van de wereld, afkomstig uit huidige en eerdere edities van het festival. Op deze manier wil Beirut Animation Nights ontheemde gezinnen uit het zuiden van Libanon ondersteunen — door de Libanese creativiteit op het wereldtoneel levend te houden en tegelijkertijd concrete hulp te bieden aan degenen die dat het hardst nodig hebben. Zo zet het festival zijn missie voort om de Libanese animatiestemmen internationaal te promoten en tegelijkertijd solidair te zijn met degenen die het zwaarst getroffen zijn.
EN Filmhuis Cavia is proud to host one of the stops of the International Tour of Beirut Animation Nights. This program presents a traveling selection of animated short films from Lebanon and around the world, drawn from current and past editions of the festival. In this way, Beirut Animation Nights aims to support displaced families from the south of Lebanon — keeping Lebanese creativity alive on the world stage while channeling real help to those who need it most, pursuing its mission to promote Lebanese animation voices internationally while standing in solidarity with those most affected.

As a kid, my friend warned me about Abou Kees, “The Bag Man”, who might come for me if I peeked under the bed. Abou Kees was an old Arab folktale of an angry figure who came after mischievous children and took them away in his bag. What is the tale was just an imaginative take on a real person that people feared to approach? The type of person filled with explosive anger that’s been bottled up for years, crushed by the weight of an unjust world order. Is it possible to see ourselves in Abou Kees? What would we be able to uncover if we truly recognized the monsters within ourselves and others?
